STARTTLS Support
Mailcatcher supports STARTTLS encryption on port 1027. Your emails are encrypted in transit when STARTTLS is enabled.
Unencrypted Connections
When your application doesn't support encryption, you can connect to port 1026 without encryption. However, we recommend using STARTTLS whenever possible for better security.
Troubleshooting
Connection Refused
If you're getting connection refused errors:
- Check that your firewall allows outbound connections on port 1026 and 1027
- Verify your credentials are correct
- Try port 1026 as an alternative and deactivate encryption
Authentication Failed
If authentication is failing:
- Double-check your username and password
- Ensure you're using the credentials for the correct project
- Try regenerating your password in project settings
- Make sure to url-encode any special characters in your password when usign a DSN connection string
Emails Not Appearing
If emails aren't showing up:
- Check that you're connected to the correct project
- Verify your application's mail configuration
- Check for any errors in your application logs
